  • From the President

I would like to thank you for your support to allow me to serve as your 2010 President of the Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. For the past several weeks we have been completing the transition to my tenure as President. I would like to thank all of you for your support and time in getting this complete. As a volunteer organization we welcome participation to help make our Chapter a success.

"FHA Update 2010" Seminar to Be Offered this April

On April 9, 2010, The Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute will sponsor the "FHA Update 2010" seminar both in Baton Rouge and Metairie. This seminar is designed for experienced residential appraisers interested in learning about the Federal Housing Administration's expectations from field appraisers. Examples of FHA inspection requirements and recent changes in the reporting process will be presented. The cost is $65 for members and non-members. Don't miss this opportunity!

    Recent Legislation Affecting the
    Appraisal Industry Needs Your Attention

Below are three links to recent bills that greatly effect the appraisal industry. Senate Bill 650 has inflammatory language where the legislature is dictating appraisal procedure which needs to be omitted. We need the industry as a whole to voice your opposition to this language. Our industry need to take a strong position or we will be legislated out of business. I will keep the Chapter Informed on these bills so we can establish an organized opposition.

HOUSE BILL NO. 1105 - TAX/AD VALOREM TAX: (Constitutional Amendment) Provides for the valuation of unoccupied land for purposes of determining its assessed valuation for ad valorem taxation

HOUSE BILL NO. 1117 - TAX/AD VALOREM TAX: Provides for the valuation of unoccupied land for purposes of determining its assessed valuation for ad valorem taxation

SENATE BILL NO. 630 - TAX/AD VALOREM. Provides for the fair market value of property held for residential development for property tax purposes. (gov sig)

The Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute Has Lost a Dear Friend and Associate

On Friday, March 19, 2010, our fellow associate, Bruce DeRoche, lost his fight with leukemia. Bruce was well loved within the appraisal community and will certialnly be missed by members of the chapter that knew him.
